Oct 28 – On this day…

On this day 126 years ago Lady Liberty was given to the US to commemorate the 100 years on the nation. Gustave Eiffel (same guy who made the Eiffel tower) was the architect .  It was first used as navigation aid and the island it is on was a Fort. It was then declared a national emblem and got the island named after it.  The statue is in Liberty Island in the Upper New York Bay, U.S,  a UNESCO World heritage site since 1984.

Harvard University was also founded today.. but his one is 376 years old!

Harvard (top), founded in 1636 and Autonomous University of Mexico (bottom) founded in 1551.

It’s oldest institution of higher learning in the United States (1636), but the oldest in America (continent) is the Autonomous University of Mexico established in 1551.

Harvard’s current enrollment in about 20,000 and it is the most prestigious. Many presidents graduated from Harvard and it is one of the IVY league (  Ivy league: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University).

What is IVY league?

Ivy league started as members of an athletic conference for intercollegiate American football and other sports. Now, this group of colleges and universities in the northeastern United States are widely regarded as high in academic and social prestige.
