Bond’s drinking habits mirror those of his creator, Ian Fleming…It is said that Fleming liked his martini shaken, not stirred, because he though stirring a drink diminished its flavor; his friend drank vodka martini, ergo Bond’s vodka shaken martinis.
A little about martinis.
It is said…
- The British claim the Martini was named after a late 19th century firearm of the same name, famous for its kick.
- The birthplace of the martini (originally called the “Martinez Special” by a local bartender in 1849), though San Francisco and other cities also have made such claims.
- In 1910 head bartender from “Martini Di Arma di taggia” in New York made a drink that was half Gin and Vermouth.
- Flavors were added in 1930 and then they added the Olive or Lemon Twist
Whatever it was.. Martinis are now anything you can put in a Martini Glass!
This phrase will now die in the next Bond movie “Sky Fall” (premieres Oct 26) because Heineken is the new sponsor.. We keep loosing Bonds mystique and sophistication .. Will he have him drink beer from the bottle or in a glass?
