Watermelons can be black!

Black-skinned “Densuke” watermelon, a variety grown only on the northern island of Hokkaido, nothern Japan.

About 10,000 grow a year so they become really exclusive and are given as gifts. In 2011 one was auctioned at 4,000 dlls; delightful and pricey.

This watermelon is about 25 lbs. (11kgs) and is sold in the market for about $250 each.
